Product Overview

A one-piece adaptor that turns a 3.5mm stereo output into a pair of RCA sockets. Plug it into the headphone or line-out socket on a phone, laptop, tablet, TV, tuner or games console, then run an ordinary twin RCA lead to an amplifier, powered speakers or a soundbar. The left channel comes out of one socket and the right out of the other.

Because this is a rigid moulded adaptor rather than a cable, there is nothing to tangle or wear out at a flex point, and it adds no length. It sits directly on the socket, which keeps things tidy behind an equipment rack, a wall-mounted TV or a desk. The plug is a 3-pole TRS type with nickel-plated contacts and the body is a single moulded piece, so it holds its grip over repeated use.

The adaptor is passive, so it works in either direction. The usual way round it feeds a 3.5mm source into RCA inputs; turned around, it lets a pair of RCA outputs feed a 3.5mm aux input on a car stereo, a portable speaker or a PC sound card. Either way the signal passes straight through with no amplification, which is what you want at line level.

Please check what you need before ordering. This is a stereo splitter, not a headphone splitter — the two RCA sockets carry the left and right halves of one stereo signal, so it will not run two pairs of headphones or two full stereo feeds. It is also 1 x 3.5mm male plug to 2 x RCA female sockets; if you need the opposite, with RCA plugs going into a 3.5mm socket, this is not the right part.

Not sure this is the right adaptor? This is a rigid adaptor, not a cable — a 3.5mm stereo plug on one side and two RCA sockets on the other — so you still need a twin RCA lead to run on from it. If you would rather have it all in one piece, that is the 3.5mm to 2x RCA cable (also in 3 metres). It is a stereo splitter, not a headphone splitter — to run two sets of headphones use the 3.5mm headphone splitter. For RCA-to-RCA splitting, see the RCA Y splitter adaptor.

Still not sure? Use the Cable Finder — pick your console and it shows you the exact lead that fits.
