3.5mm Stereo Plug to 2x RCA – 1.2 Metre Audio Adaptor Lead

Quick Specs & Highlights

  • 3.5 mm stereo plug at one end – the same plug as a pair of headphones
  • Two RCA plugs at the other, red and black, for the left and right inputs
  • 1.2 metres (120 cm) – the short one, for gear that sits together
  • Moulded plugs with strain relief, on a slim flexible lead
  • Gets a phone, laptop, tablet or TV into an amplifier or hi-fi
  • Fully passive – no power, no batteries, nothing to set up

Product Overview

This is the lead that gets a modern device into an older stereo. One end is a standard 3.5 mm stereo plug; the other splits into two RCA plugs for the left and right channel inputs on an amplifier, receiver, hi-fi or powered speakers.

At 1.2 metres this is deliberately the short one. It is the length you want when the two things are already close together – a phone or a laptop on the same shelf as the amplifier, a desktop DAC beside the speakers, or a tidy rack where a three-metre lead just becomes a loop of slack to hide. If your source sits across the room, we list a 3 metre version of this same cable.

What you can use it for

  • A phone, tablet or laptop into an amplifier or hi-fi that only has RCA inputs
  • A desktop DAC, sound card or audio interface out to powered monitors alongside it
  • A TV or projector headphone socket to a soundbar or stereo in the same cabinet
  • Any older amp or bookshelf system that predates a 3.5 mm aux input

Please read before buying

  • It is not a microphone lead. A headset that carries a mic uses a 4-pole TRRS plug; this is a 3-pole stereo cable and will not pass microphone audio.
  • It cannot convert digital audio. If your TV only has an optical or HDMI audio output, this lead will not help – you would need a digital-to-analogue converter first.
  • The two RCA plugs are a stereo pair (left and right), not a single subwoofer connection.

Within that, it does one job properly: it turns a headphone socket into a pair of RCA plugs, without the slack.
