Heavy Duty 1.5 metre Composite AV Cable – Thick 3 x RCA to 3 x RCA
Quick Specs & Highlights
- Heavy duty build – noticeably thicker and more heavily insulated than the thin budget AV leads this competes with
- The composite video core is visibly thicker again than the two audio cores, which is where picture quality is won or lost
- Three RCA plugs on both ends – male to male, nothing to adapt
- 1.5 metres (150 cm) – long enough to reach the back of a TV without a loop of spare cable on the floor
- Colour coded to the standard: yellow composite video, white left audio, red right audio
- Shielded round cable with a flexible black jacket that holds a curve instead of kinking
- Moulded plug bodies with ribbed grips, so the plug pulls out by the body and not by the cable
- Straight one-to-one wiring – works in either direction, source to display or display to recorder
Product Overview
This is a heavy-duty AV lead, and that is the whole point of it. Put it next to the thin flat cable that came free in the box with a DVD player and the difference is obvious in the hand – the jacket is thicker, the insulation is heavier, and the three cores are substantially chunkier. Even the two audio cores here are thicker than the video core on a lot of budget leads. The close-up photographs show the cable laid out flat rather than coiled, specifically so the thickness is visible.
The composite video core is visibly thicker again than the two audio cores. That is the one carrying the picture, and a thin, poorly insulated video core is the usual reason a cheap lead gives a soft or noisy image. A heavier core and jacket also mean the cable survives being pulled tight behind a cabinet, trodden on, or coiled and uncoiled repeatedly, instead of going intermittent at the plug.
Beyond the build it is a standard three-plug composite AV lead that almost every piece of home entertainment gear still falls back on. Three male RCA plugs are moulded onto each end and colour coded yellow for composite video with red and white for the right and left audio channels, so it drops straight into the matching sockets without any guesswork.
What it connects: a DVD or Blu-ray player, set-top box, PVR, VCR, camcorder dock, projector, karaoke machine or a games console AV adaptor, into the AV inputs on a television, monitor or sound bar. Because the wiring is a straight one-to-one it works just as well in reverse, feeding a recorder or a capture device from the AV outputs of a player.
Length: the lead measures 1.5 metres – 150 cm. That reaches from a shelf or a cabinet to the back of a television comfortably. Two of these joined end to end will not extend a run, because both ends are plugs – but this lead will extend an existing AV cable that finishes in sockets.
Please check the ends you need. This lead has three plugs on both ends. It is not a console lead: a console with a captive AV cable already has its own plug end, and this will not replace it. It is also not a component video cable – the plugs here are yellow, white and red for composite, not the green, blue and red of a Y/Pb/Pr set.
Not sure this is the right lead? This is a composite AV cable with three plugs at both ends, 1.5m — DVD player to TV, set-top box to TV, that sort of run. If your gear needs Y/Pb/Pr component video instead, that is the 1.5m component video cable. If one end needs to be a 3.5mm four-pole jack for a camcorder, see the camcorder AV lead. For audio only with no video, use the stereo RCA cable, and if one end must be a socket because you are lengthening a lead you already own, that is the RCA extension.
Still not sure? Use the Cable Finder — pick your console and it shows you the exact lead that fits.
