Product Overview

A 5 metre TV aerial extension lead. One end is a standard PAL (Belling-Lee) male plug, the other a PAL female socket, so it joins onto an aerial cable you already own and adds five metres to it. This is the length people reach for when the problem is the room rather than the furniture: the only wall plate is on the far side, the television has moved to the opposite wall, or the signal has to get through to a second set in the next room.

The cable is 75Ω RG6, quad shielded — a step up from the thin 3C-2V single-shield flylead most televisions are supplied with, with four shielding layers around the centre conductor instead of one. That construction earns its keep over a longer run, because five metres of cable spends far more of its length alongside power leads, boards and routers than a short one does. It is also simply a heavier cable, so it holds a gentle curve around a doorway rather than taking a sharp kink.

We are not going to oversell it: digital free-to-air either decodes or it does not, and a passive cable amplifies nothing. If your reception is marginal the fix is the antenna or an amplifier, not a lead. What this gives you is five metres of reach without introducing the weakest link in the chain.

Three things worth checking before you order. First, this is a cable, not an adaptor — a lot of the cheapest “extension” listings are a bare barrel connector with no lead at all. Second, one end is a female socket; if you need a plug at both ends to run from the wall plate into the television, that is a male-to-male flylead and a different part. Third, both ends are straight — if you need the connection turned through 90° behind a wall-mounted set, that is our right-angle flylead instead.
