Product Overview
A small right-angle adaptor that turns a TV aerial connection through 90 degrees. One arm is a PAL male plug, the other is a PAL female socket, set at right angles to each other. The plug goes into the wall socket, your existing aerial lead plugs into the socket on the adaptor, and the cable then runs down the wall instead of straight out of it. PAL is also called Belling-Lee, or simply the standard Australian TV aerial connector — it is the plain push-fit plug on the end of almost every antenna lead sold here.
The problem it solves is clearance. A TV aerial plug pushed straight into a wall socket stands 40 mm or more proud of the wall before the cable even starts to bend. Slide a wall-mounted television, a cabinet or a bedhead back against that and one of two things happens: either the furniture will not sit flat, or the lead is forced into a hard curve right at the neck of the plug. That neck is the weakest point of any coaxial lead — bend it far enough, often enough, and the braid deforms and the picture starts breaking up on the weaker channels. Turning the exit through a right angle lets everything sit flush and takes the strain off the cable completely.
The body is machined brass with a nickel finish, in one piece. There is no moulded plastic shell, which matters on a part that lives behind furniture and gets levered on and off: the whole adaptor is metal from end to end, so the two arms cannot work loose from each other. Inside the socket end is a slotted spring-finger contact that grips the mating plug around its full circumference rather than at one point.
It is completely passive and has no direction — no power, no amplifier, no switch, nothing to configure or fail. It passes the aerial signal through unchanged, so it works the same on a digital TV tuner, a set-top box, a PVR, a VCR or an FM tuner. It is a joiner, not a splitter: one lead in, one lead out.
Check the gender before ordering, because the mirror part exists. This is the plug-to-socket version: a solid pin on one arm, a hole on the other. It pushes into a socket and accepts a plug. If both of the things you are joining end in a plug, you want a socket-to-socket coupler instead; if both end in a socket, you want plug-to-plug. All three look nearly identical from a distance and only one will do a given job, so it is worth a moment on the close-up pictures — the second and fifth images show each end face-on.
Note also that PAL is not the same connector as F-Type, the threaded screw-on type used on satellite dishes and on some antenna amplifiers. PAL pushes on; F-Type screws on. This adaptor is PAL at both ends.
This listing is for one adaptor. One is enough for a single television; a second room, or a splitter feeding two sets, needs one per outlet. Multi-buy pricing is shown on the listing if you need more than one.
