Product Overview
This converter lets you play a Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo or GameCube on a modern television. All three consoles use the same AV MULTI OUT port, so one converter covers the lot. It takes what the console sends and puts picture and sound onto your TV over a single HDMI lead – no more hunting for the yellow, red and white AV sockets that new TVs have stopped including.
The converter body sits on a 50 cm lead, and there is a 1080P / 720P slide switch on the side so you can pick the output your television is happiest with.
PAL and NTSC are both supported, so it works with the PAL consoles sold here in Australia as well as imported NTSC machines.
It needs USB power – and the cable is in the box
This converter is not powered by the console. A 50 cm USB-A to micro-USB lead is supplied and plugs into any ordinary USB power source: a USB port on the TV, a phone charger, a wall adaptor or a power bank. Nothing special and nothing extra to buy – but you do need one USB port free.
What it does, plainly
Output is 1080p or 720p over HDMI, chosen on the switch, and both picture and sound travel down the one HDMI lead. It is worth being straight about what HDMI can and cannot do here: it carries the console’s own picture to a modern screen cleanly and without the softness of an old composite lead, but it does not add detail that was never in the game. A Nintendo 64 title is a standard-definition title whichever cable it travels down. There is no 4K and no 3D.
Check before you buy
- Fits the Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo / Super Famicom and the GameCube – the moulded plug goes into the console’s AV MULTI OUT socket.
- USB power is required and the USB lead is included; a USB power source is not.
- The 1.5 m HDMI cable is included – the converter has an HDMI socket and this pack supplies the lead for it.
- It converts one way only, console to TV. It will not feed a console from an HDMI source and it is not an HDMI-to-AV adaptor.
- No 4K and no 3D.
What is in the pack
- 1 × converter on a 50 cm lead, for Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo / Super Famicom and GameCube
- 1 × 50 cm USB-A to micro-USB lead to power the converter
- 1 × 1.5 m HDMI cable to reach the television
Bought together the pack costs less than the parts on their own, and it is one order, one parcel and one warranty.
Nothing to install
Plug and play: no drivers, no software and no settings to change on the console. Connect the plug, connect an HDMI lead, give it USB power, switch the TV to that HDMI input and play.
