Product Overview
This adaptor lets you play a Nintendo Wii on a modern television. It takes the console’s AV output and sends picture and sound to your TV over a single HDMI lead, so you no longer need the three yellow, red and white AV sockets that new TVs have stopped including.
The converter sits on a 50 cm lead rather than plugging straight into the back of the console.
What it does, plainly
Output is 1080p over HDMI and there is no switch to set – nothing to configure on the adaptor at all. It carries every display mode the Wii produces, including PAL 576i, which is what Australian consoles output.
It is worth being straight about what HDMI can and cannot do here: it carries the Wii’s own picture to a modern screen cleanly and without the softness of an old composite lead, but it does not add detail that was never in the game. A Wii title is a standard-definition title whichever cable it travels down.
