Product Overview
This composite AV cable connects your Sega Mega Drive 1, Genesis 1, or Master System 1 to any TV or monitor with standard RCA inputs. The 5-pin DIN connector plugs into the AV port on the back of the console, while the other end provides two RCA connectors — yellow for composite video and white for audio. At 1.8 metres long, the cable provides ample reach from your console to your TV with no adaptors or converters required.
All three consoles share the same AV port, so this single cable works with the Mega Drive 1, Genesis 1, and Master System 1. Audio output from the AV port on these consoles is mono — this is a hardware limitation of the consoles themselves, not the cable. For stereo sound on a Mega Drive 1, you can run a separate 3.5 mm cable from the headphone jack on the front of the console.
Compatibility Note: This cable is designed for the Sega Mega Drive 1, Genesis 1, and Master System 1 only. It is not compatible with the Mega Drive 2 or 3 (Genesis 2 or 3) or the Master System 2, all of which use different AV connectors.
Not sure this is the right cable? This lead fits the Mega Drive 1, Genesis 1 and Master System 1 only — a 5-pin DIN port with mono audio. A Mega Drive 2 or 3 (Genesis 2 or 3), 32X or Nomad uses a 9-pin mini-DIN port and needs the Mega Drive 2 / 3 AV cable (also available as a heavy-duty thick-cable version). A Sega Saturn needs the Saturn AV cable. Count the pins on your console’s AV port: 5-pin DIN = Mega Drive 1 / Genesis 1 / Master System 1, 9-pin mini-DIN = Mega Drive 2 or 3 / Genesis 2 or 3 / 32X / Nomad, 10-pin Multi-AV = Saturn.
