9V DC at 1A with centre-negative polarity and a 5.5mm x 2.1mm barrel - the correct specification for all three consoles. It is a modern switchmode supply, so it runs cool and light rather than hot and heavy like the original.
What it fits
- Sega Mega Drive 1 - Model 1, 1600-series - PAL
- Sega Master System 1 and 2 - PAL
- Sega Game Gear - PAL / European
What it does not fit
- Mega Drive 2 / Genesis 2 / 32X - centre-positive and a smaller plug - will not fit
- Mega CD - needs a higher current rating
- Saturn and Dreamcast - these use a mains lead, not a DC supply
Important: Mega Drive 1 and Mega Drive 2 are not the same
Mega Drive 2 / Genesis 2 power packs are centre-positive and use a smaller 4.75mm plug. A Mega Drive 2 pack must never be used on a Mega Drive 1 - the polarity is reversed. This unit is centre-negative, which is correct for the Model 1, the Master System and the Game Gear.
