- Please check before you buy. This is a lead with plain RCA plugs at both ends. It does not plug into a games console: a breakout lead made for PlayStation or Xbox has the console connector moulded onto one end, and this lead does not. It carries video only and does not carry sound: there are three plugs, not five, so you will still need an audio lead. And it is a five metre run — please check that is the length you want before ordering.
Product Overview
A five metre component video lead with three RCA plugs at each end, for carrying a YPbPr component picture between two pieces of equipment. Component splits the picture across three separate cables instead of squeezing it down one, which is why it holds a noticeably cleaner image than a single yellow composite lead over a long run — and five metres is a long run.
Built for the distance. Each of the three cores is its own thickly insulated lead in a deep blue-violet jacket, and the three run loose rather than being bonded together, so you can fan them out behind a cabinet or feed them through a wall plate one at a time. The conductor is OFC, oxygen-free copper. Every plug is gold plated on the centre pin and on the outer contact, and each one is moulded with a ribbed grip and a proper strain relief collar where the cable enters, which is the part that fails first on thin leads once a cable has been coiled and uncoiled a few times.
Green, blue and red, at both ends. Component video is colour coded Y, Pb and Pr — green, blue and red. Coloured rings sit at both ends of every lead so you are not guessing which plug is which behind the television. Some equipment labels the same three sockets YUV or RGB; it is the same connection.
The plugs are ordinary RCA, so if you ever stop needing it for component video the same lead will serve as three separate RCA runs — a stereo pair and a composite video, for instance — provided you match the colours at both ends. At five metres that makes it a useful lead to keep.
Compatibility — please read before you buy. Fits: Any equipment with a 3 x RCA component video output or input — DVD and Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, upscalers, projectors, older HD televisions and monitors, and the console breakout leads that end in RCA plugs.
