Product Overview
A Y-splitter lead for audio. One male RCA plug at one end, two male RCA plugs at the other, so a single output can feed two inputs. The most common job by far is a subwoofer: an amplifier or receiver usually has one mono SUB OUT, while a lot of subwoofers have two line inputs marked left and right. This lead bridges that gap.
Please check the direction before buying. All three connectors on this lead are male plugs. If the socket you need to plug into is female, this is the right cable; if you were looking for something with a socket on it, this is not. It is worth being explicit because the words 'male splitter' get used loosely and often describe the opposite arrangement.
And one thing it does not do: it does not turn mono into stereo. Both output plugs carry exactly the same signal, because they are joined inside the moulding. That is what makes it right for a subwoofer, where the feed is mono anyway, and for sending one source to both channels of an amplifier - but it will not separate a left and a right.
The outputs are colour-coded black and red so they are easy to tell apart at the back of a rack. 1.2 metres is enough to reach from an amplifier down to a subwoofer sitting beside or behind it.
