Product Overview
A premium-grade digital coaxial interconnect, three metres long, with one gold-plated RCA plug at each end. It is built on RG6 quad-shielded cable – a 6 mm jacket carrying an oxygen-free copper centre conductor, a foil-and-braid quad shield and an aluminium-mylar wrap. The jacket is printed QUAD-SHIELD 75 OHM DIGITAL INTERCONNECT, which is exactly what it is.
The reason to use a proper coaxial lead for digital audio is impedance. An S/PDIF signal is a high-frequency waveform, specified to travel down a 75 Ω line. A general-purpose RCA patch lead is not impedance-matched, so the signal reflects back along the cable and the receiving DAC has to work harder to recover the clock. That matters more over a long run than a short one, which is why the heavier shielding earns its keep at three metres.
Please check what you are connecting, because it is the one thing to get right. This lead carries ONE channel. If you are connecting a stereo pair – a left and a right – you need two of these, or a twin lead instead.
Where a single channel is exactly right: digital coaxial audio (S/PDIF) between a CD player, streamer, console or TV and an amplifier, soundbar or DAC; a subwoofer feed, because the LFE channel is mono by nature; and the yellow lead of a composite video set, which is one RCA on its own.
Three metres is the length that solves the placement problem – a subwoofer that ended up in the far corner, an amplifier on the other side of the room, or a projector that needs the run to reach. Quad shielding over that distance is what keeps mains hum and nearby interference out of the signal.
