Product Overview
This small adapter plugs directly into the AV MULTI OUT port on the back of a PlayStation 2 – the same port the original AV cable uses – and gives you an HDMI socket to run a single HDMI lead to a modern television, monitor or projector. Picture and stereo sound both travel down the HDMI lead.
A 3.5 mm audio jack sits beside the HDMI socket, so you can also run headphones or powered speakers at the same time. It is compatible with both the original “fat” PS2 and the slim PS2, and needs no drivers or software.
One setting to check on the PS2
The adapter uses the PS2’s component video signal. In the PS2’s System Configuration menu, set Component Video Out to Y Cb/Cr (not RGB). On RGB the colours come out wrong.
It needs USB power – and the cable is in the box
A 50 cm USB to mini-USB power cable is supplied – the same plug as a PS3 controller charging cable. Plug it into the PS2’s own front USB port, a USB port on the TV or an ordinary 5V USB phone charger. A USB wall adaptor is not included.

What it does, plainly
The adapter passes the picture through at the resolution the PS2 sends – 480i, 576i or 480p – and your TV scales it to fill the screen. It does not add detail and does not change the resolution; a PS2 game still looks like a PS2 game, just on an HDMI input.
Your TV has to accept that signal over HDMI. Most do, but some televisions (certain Samsung models in particular) will not show a 576i / 50 Hz picture over HDMI. If you are unsure, check your TV’s specifications for 576i support.

- No HDMI cable is included – the adapter has an HDMI socket and you supply the lead.
- USB power is required; the 50 cm cable is included, a USB wall adaptor is not.
- It converts one way only, PS2 to HDMI.
- For the PS2 only. It is not for the original PlayStation (PS1), which has no component output, or the PS3.
