This is the small rigid adaptor that lets a lead finishing in an RCA (phono) plug reach an ordinary Australian aerial socket. One end is a PAL plug — the plain barrel with an open skirt and a solid pin standing in the centre of it — and the other is an RCA socket, the stepped shell with a white insulating ring around a small open bore. Push the PAL end into the aerial socket and push your RCA plug into the other end.

The job it does most often is getting a phono-terminated lead onto television and tuner hardware. FM tuners, hi-fi receivers, older video recorders, modulators and a good deal of test and camera gear present an ordinary aerial socket, while the lead in your hand very often ends in an RCA plug. This adaptor bridges the two without re-terminating the cable, and it is equally at home on a bench where a patch lead needs to reach a tuner or a meter.

The PAL end is a plug and the RCA end is a socket. The PAL end is the barrel with the pin in the centre, and it pushes into the aerial socket. The RCA end is the shell with the white ring and the hole, and your phono plug pushes into it. If you hold your lead in one hand and look at the last connector on it, this adaptor is the right one when that connector is an RCA plug and the thing you are trying to reach has an ordinary aerial socket.
