HDMI Adapter for Nintendo Wii — 1080p Converter with 3.5 mm Audio Output
Quick Specs & Highlights
- Made for the Nintendo Wii — the moulded plug on the body goes directly into the AV Multi Out socket on the back of the console. There is no separate AV lead to buy and nothing to assemble
- HDMI output to any modern TV — one HDMI cable from the adapter to a television, monitor or projector carries picture and sound together
- 3.5 mm audio output as well — a stereo jack on the same face feeds headphones, a soundbar or powered speakers when you want the sound somewhere other than the television
- Handles PAL 576i as well as NTSC 480i and 480p — every display mode the console produces, so it works with an Australian PAL machine and with an imported NTSC one
- 1080p Full HD output — the adapter takes the console’s analogue video and sends it out as a digital HDMI signal your set can lock onto directly
- Motion-adaptive de-interlacing — 576i and 480i are interlaced, and the adapter rebuilds them into a progressive frame itself rather than leaving your television to do it from an analogue input
- No power supply to plug in — it draws what it needs from the console’s own AV port, so there is nothing to find a spare wall socket for
- Small enough to leave connected — about 7.5 cm long, 34 mm wide and 14 mm thick, so it sits behind the console rather than hanging off it
- Please read: an adapter for the Nintendo Wii does not add detail. The console’s own picture is standard definition — 576i on a PAL machine like the ones sold here, 480i or 480p on an NTSC one — and no converter can turn that into true high definition. What this does is deliver a clean digital signal your TV does not have to process from an analogue input. Expect a sharper, steadier picture, not a remastered one
Product Overview
A direct HDMI adapter for the Nintendo Wii. The plug moulded into the body goes into the AV Multi Out socket on the back of the console, and an HDMI cable runs from the adapter to your television. That is the whole installation — there is no AV lead to buy, no power supply to plug in and nothing to configure.
Most of these consoles are still connected over the yellow, red and white composite lead they shipped with, and on a modern set that analogue signal has to be converted by the television itself — which is where the soft picture most people remember comes from. This adapter does the conversion at the console instead.
Alongside the HDMI socket there is a 3.5 mm stereo audio output. If your television takes the sound over HDMI you can ignore it entirely; it is there for the cases where you want audio going to headphones, a soundbar or a pair of powered speakers instead.
It handles every display mode the console produces — PAL 576i, and NTSC 480i and 480p — so an Australian machine or an import both work. The interlaced modes are de-interlaced by the adapter itself, using motion-adaptive processing, rather than left to your television. Output is 1080p Full HD.
Please be clear about what a converter can and cannot do. The console’s own picture is standard definition — 576i on a PAL machine like the ones sold here, 480i or 480p on an NTSC one — and nothing downstream can add detail it never produced. What you gain is a direct digital connection, a stable image and one cable instead of three. What you will not get is a game that looks like it was made for a 1080p display.
The plug is shaped for the Nintendo Wii’s AV Multi Out socket, and we list this adapter for that console only.
