Product Overview
A five metre single RCA lead with one RCA male plug at each end. One connector, one channel, one signal — the shape you need whenever a single RCA socket has to reach something a long way away.
Check this before you order. A single lead is not the same as the red-and-white pair most people picture when they think of RCA. If you are connecting two channels of analogue audio you want a twin lead, and if you need to feed two inputs from one output you want a Y lead. This is the single-channel version: one plug in, one plug out, five metres between them. The photographs show both connector faces and each of them has a centre pin.
The three jobs it normally does. First, subwoofer — a receiver has one mono sub-out and a powered subwoofer has a line input, and this lead joins them. Second, digital coaxial audio — an S/PDIF coaxial link between a Blu-ray player, set-top box, games console or TV and an amplifier or soundbar. Third, composite video — the yellow connection of an AV set, run on its own.
Why the cable type matters. The jacket is printed RG59U coaxial, which is a genuine 75 ohm cable rather than ordinary figure-eight audio cord with an RCA moulded on each end. Digital coaxial audio and composite video are both 75 ohm signals, so a correctly matched cable is what keeps a long run clean. It is double shielded, which is what you want when a five metre lead has to share a floor or a wall cavity with mains cabling.
Built heavier than the usual lead. The plugs are chunky moulded bodies with a knurled grip, and the pins and collars are gold plated. The cable itself is thick and holds its shape without kinking. This is deliberately the heavy-duty rung of our single RCA range.
Which end goes where. Either. Both ends are identical male plugs, so the lead is not directional and can be run whichever way is tidier.
A passive lead. There are no electronics inside it, nothing to power and nothing to configure.
