PlayStation Power Cables Explained: PS1 to PS5

If you've pulled an old PlayStation out of the cupboard and the power lead has gone missing, you're not alone — power cables are the most common thing lost between house moves. The good news is that Sony has only used a handful of designs across five console generations, so matching the right lead is straightforward once you know what to look for.

PS1 and PS2 (original "fat" models)

The original PlayStation and the early "fat" PlayStation 2 use a dedicated two-pin power lead that runs straight from the wall to the console. The slimline PS2 switched to an external power brick with its own captive cable, so check whether your console has the brick before ordering.

PS3

The original “fat” PS3 actually uses a 3-pin IEC C13 kettle-style lead — grab a replacement PS3 fat power cable (it fits the PS4 Pro too). The later Slim and Super Slim models use a standard two-pin figure-8 (C7) mains lead — the same shape used by many laptops and printers. Any figure-8 lead with an Australian plug will work.

PS4 and PS5

Every PlayStation 4 and PS4 Slim, and every PlayStation 5 (disc, Digital, Slim and Pro) uses a two-pin figure-8 mains lead as well — only the PS4 Pro differs, taking the same IEC C13 lead as the original PS3. A single AU figure-8 power cable covers the rest of your modern line-up.
