Product Overview
A full-size Toslink coupler for joining two optical audio cables end to end. When the optical lead you already own will not quite reach — a TV moved to the other side of the room, an amplifier relocated into a cabinet, a projector put on the ceiling — this joins a second cable onto the first instead of making you buy one long replacement.
Both ends take the standard square Toslink plug, so a normal optical lead pushes straight in from either side. Inside, a precision ferrule holds the two cable ends square and centred against one another, which is what keeps the light path clean across the join. The barrel is ribbed so you can get a proper grip on it when you are working blind behind a cabinet.
It is a completely passive part. There is no power, no switch and nothing to set up — the S/PDIF signal passes straight through, carrying stereo PCM and encoded surround formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS exactly as the source sends them. Because every optical join costs a little signal, we would suggest using one coupler in a run rather than chaining several, and keeping the total length sensible.
Please check the plug shape before ordering. This takes the full-size square Toslink plug at both ends and both ends are female sockets. It is not a mini-Toslink (3.5mm optical) adaptor, and it will not convert optical to coaxial, RCA or HDMI — those are different parts.
