Product Overview

One metre is the point of this one. Most figure-8 leads are two metres or longer, which is generous when the outlet is across the room and a nuisance when it is directly behind the appliance. At a metre there is almost nothing left over to coil, tape down or feed back through a cable tray — which is what you want behind a wall-bracketed television, on a rack shelf, or inside a cabinet where the slack is the thing causing the problem. If your outlet is further away, we list the same lead in 2 m.

A 1.0 metre figure-8 mains lead that is right-angled at both ends. The Australian wall plug turns flat against the socket, and the figure-8 (IEC C7) connector turns flat against the appliance. Where a straight lead forces the cable to stick out and then bend, this one lets it run flush and disappear.

The reason a right-angled figure-8 lead exists is clearance. If a television is on a wall bracket, a straight plug and a straight connector are usually the two things stopping it sitting flat. The same problem shows up behind furniture, inside a cabinet, or anywhere an appliance is pushed hard against a wall. Both ends turning through ninety degrees can recover several centimetres at each end.

Check the connector on your appliance before you order. A figure-8 socket has two round holes side by side, in a shape like the numeral 8. It is not earthed and it has no third pin. If the socket on your device has three holes arranged in a triangle, that is a different connector altogether and this lead will not fit it. Comparing your socket against the photographs takes a moment and saves a return.

It is also not the larger three-pin appliance connector used on desktop PCs, monitors and amplifiers. That one is a different part, which we also stock. This lead is the small two-pin figure-8.
