Piggy-Back IEC C13 Power Lead 1m — Australian 3-Pin Pass-Through Mains Plug, 10A Kettle Cord

Quick Specs & Highlights

  • The mains plug has a full Australian three-pin socket built into its face — so the power point you plug this into is not lost. Plug the lead into the wall, and something else straight into the back of the plug. That is the whole reason to buy this lead rather than an ordinary one.
  • The plug is right-angled; the C13 end is straight. The cord leaves the wall plug at ninety degrees and runs flat down the skirting instead of standing proud of the socket, which is what makes it usable behind furniture and in cabinets where a straight piggy-back plug would be pushed off the wall.
  • Total load 10 A across BOTH outlets. The piggy-backed appliance and the C13 device both draw through this one plug, so 10 A is the combined figure — not 10 A each. It is moulded on the plug body. Fine for consoles, monitors, routers, chargers and AV gear; not for two heaters.
  • IEC 60320 C13 socket — fits a standard C14 inlet. This is the usual three-pin “kettle” connector found on desktop PCs, monitors, printers, amplifiers, AV receivers, network and rack equipment, and on the power bricks of several games consoles.
  • Genuine Australian 10 A plug (AS/NZS 3112) — two angled flat pins and a vertical earth, moulded to the cable. Not a US, UK or European plug and not a travel adaptor on the end of a cord.
  • 1 m long, 1.0 mm² three-core, rated 10 A / 250 V, black. Full earth conductor throughout, and the socket on the plug is earthed too.

Product Overview

This is a mains power lead with a piggy-back plug — a wall plug with a second, full-size Australian power point moulded into the front of it. One end goes into your power point; the other end is the familiar three-pin “kettle” socket that plugs into your equipment. The difference from an ordinary lead is that you get the power point back: a second appliance plugs straight into the face of the plug.

Which end does what, to be completely clear: the mains plug is the right-angled one and it is the one carrying the extra socket. The C13 appliance connector at the other end is straight. We also sell right-angle leads built the opposite way round — straight plug, angled C13 — and they are a different product. The photographs show the exact arrangement, which is worth a look if clearance is tight on one particular side.

What it is not. It is not a power board and not a double adaptor: there is one extra outlet, not four, and no switch, no surge protection and no overload cut-out. It is not an IEC extension — it has an Australian wall plug on one end, not a male IEC connector. It is not a figure-8 (C7) or a clover-leaf (C5) lead; those are the two-pin and three-lobed connectors used on smaller appliances and slim consoles, and they will not fit a C14 inlet.

It fits a C14 inlet, which is the ordinary one. If the socket on your equipment has a notch cut into the top edge, that is a C16 inlet for high-temperature use and this lead will not seat in it — you need a C15 lead, which is a different part. If you are unsure whether this is the right connector for your equipment, send us a message with the make and model and we will check it for you.
