Composite AV Cable for Xbox 360 & 360 S — 1.8 m RCA Audio Video Lead

Quick Specs & Highlights

  • Fits the original Xbox 360 and the 360 S (Slim) — the wide moulded plug matches the AV Multi Out socket on the back of both consoles and is keyed so it only seats one way
  • Not for the Xbox 360 E. That console dropped the wide AV Multi Out socket and uses a small round 3.5 mm jack instead, so it needs the 3.5 mm lead rather than this one — worth checking the back of your console before ordering
  • Picture and stereo sound in one lead — the yellow plug carries the video, the red and white plugs carry left and right audio
  • Thick, heavily insulated cable with gold-plated RCA connectors — a more substantial lead than the thin cable these consoles originally shipped with, and the console plug carries a nickel-plated shell over gold contact pins
  • 180 cm long (1.8 metres) — enough to reach from a console on a shelf or in a cabinet to the sockets on the back of a television
  • Please note this is a composite cable, which is standard definition. It is not a component, VGA or S-Video lead and it carries no digital audio port, so it will not give a sharper picture than the composite output the console already provides

Product Overview

A replacement composite AV lead for the original Xbox 360 and the 360 S. The wide moulded connector plugs into the AV Multi Out socket on the back of the console and the three RCA plugs on the other end go into the matching yellow, red and white sockets on your television — the same arrangement these consoles originally shipped with.

There are three models to know about, and the socket is not the same on all of them. The original 360 and the 360 S both carry the wide multi-pin AV Multi Out port this lead is built for. The later 360 E does not: it was redesigned around a small round 3.5 mm jack, so this plug will not physically enter it. If the socket on the back of your console is a slim round hole rather than a wide flat slot, you want the 3.5 mm lead instead.

Composite is the connection most owners use, and it works with any television, monitor, projector, VCR or capture card that has the three coloured RCA sockets. There is nothing to configure and nothing to power. Plug it in and the console outputs picture and stereo sound straight away.

The cable itself is a thick, heavily insulated PVC lead rather than the thin cord these consoles came with, finished in black throughout with moulded strain relief where the cable meets each plug. The three RCA heads are colour-coded yellow, red and white to match the sockets they go into and carry gold-plated connectors, while the console end is a nickel-plated shell over gold contact pins with a retention tab that holds it in the socket.

These consoles also support component and VGA through separate leads, which carry a sharper picture on a modern display. This is the standard-definition composite lead — what the console outputs by default, and what most CRT and older flat-panel televisions accept.
