Clover Leaf Power Lead 1.8m — Australian 3-Pin Mains Plug to IEC C5, 10A Earthed Cord

Quick Specs & Highlights

  • Three-pin earthed IEC C5 “clover leaf” connector — also called a Mickey Mouse or trefoil connector, after the three rounded lobes. It has three holes, not two. If the socket on your equipment has only two openings and a flat oval body, that is a figure-8 (C7) and this is not the lead you want.
  • Both ends are straight. The Australian plug is a normal straight moulded plug and the C5 end runs in line with the cable. We also stock a right-angled version where the clover-leaf end turns through 90°; if you specifically need the angled one for clearance behind a cabinet, buy that listing instead of this one.
  • Genuine Australian 10 A plug (AS/NZS 3112) — two angled flat pins plus a vertical earth pin, moulded to the cable. Not a US, UK or European plug.
  • 1.8 metres of 3-core 0.75 mm² round cable, rated 10 A / 250 V. Long enough to reach a floor socket from a desk or bench without the excess coil you get from a 3 m lead.
  • Fits the usual clover-leaf equipment — laptop and notebook power bricks, many printers, monitors, camera and battery chargers, projectors, and the power supplies of a number of games consoles and set-top boxes. If your power brick takes a three-lobed socket, this is the lead for it.
  • Earthed, three-core construction. The earth pin is connected through to the C5 connector, which is what distinguishes a C5 lead from an unearthed figure-8 and is why the two are not interchangeable even though they look similar at a glance.

Product Overview

This is a standard Australian mains lead terminating in an IEC 60320 C5 connector — the three-lobed “clover leaf” socket found on a great many laptop power bricks and small appliance supplies. It replaces a lost or damaged original lead, or gives you a spare so the brick can stay where it is used.

The most common mix-up is with the figure-8 (C7) lead, so it is worth thirty seconds before you order. Look at the socket on your power brick. A C5 has three separate round openings arranged in a cloverleaf and the lead that fits it is a three-core earthed cable. A C7 has two openings in a flat, waisted, figure-of-eight shape and is unearthed two-core. They are different connectors and neither will fit the other. Count the holes — that is the whole test.

It is also not a C13 “kettle” lead. A C13 is the larger three-pin rectangular connector used on desktop PCs, monitors and amplifiers. A clover leaf is noticeably smaller and rounded, and the two are not interchangeable either.

This lead is straight at both ends. That is the ordinary configuration and it is what almost everyone wants. We mention it only because we also sell a right-angled clover-leaf lead, and the photographs of the two products look similar in a search results grid. If your power brick sits hard against a wall or inside a cabinet and a straight connector will not fit, the angled listing is the one to buy.

This is a full mains lead, not an extension. It has an Australian wall plug on one end. A cable with a male C5 connector instead of a wall plug is an extension lead, sold to lengthen an existing cord, and those appear under similar search terms.

If you are not certain this is the right connector for your equipment, get in touch with the make and model before you buy and we will tell you either way.
