Upgrading to a bigger hard drive, or moving to a second Xbox 360, normally means losing everything on the old drive. This is the genuine Microsoft lead that moves it across instead. Your gamertag and profile, saved games, installed titles, add-ons, avatars, music and video all copy over, so nothing has to be re-downloaded and no progress is lost.

One end clips onto the removable hard drive from the original Xbox 360; the other is a plain USB plug that goes into the console you are moving to. On a console with up-to-date system software there is nothing to install and no disc to find — it recognises the lead on its own and offers to transfer the content, and you simply choose to start it. The transfer takes anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours depending on how full the old drive is, and the cable can be used again as many times as you like.

These are new old stock: unused units that have sat in storage since they were made, carrying the moulded housing and the printed part label X815251-002 so you can see exactly what you are getting. Genuine first-party leads for this job are increasingly hard to find, and the copies on the market are unbranded. We hold a limited number and there will be no more once they are gone.

Compatibility — please check which console you have. Fits: The removable hard drive fitted to the original Xbox 360 (the "fat" model). Not compatible with the internal hard drives in the Xbox 360 S (Slim) or the Xbox 360 E. Those drives use a different connector and need the later dual-connector cable (part X812003-001, model 1499). The USB end of this cable plugs into any Xbox 360 console — it is the drive end that is specific.
