Xbox 360 Power Supply Replacement: Which One Do You Need?

If your Xbox 360 has stopped turning on, or keeps powering off unexpectedly, a faulty power supply is often the culprit. The good news is that replacements are readily available — but there are three different Xbox 360 models, each requiring a different power brick. Here's how to figure out which one you need.

The Three Xbox 360 Models and Their Power Supplies

Xbox 360 Original (Fat)

The original "fat" Xbox 360 uses a large 6-pin power connector and came with either a 175W or 203W power brick. When replacing, we recommend the 203W version as it is backwards compatible with all original Xbox 360 consoles regardless of whether yours originally shipped with 175W or 150W.

Xbox 360 Slim (S)

Released in 2010, the Xbox 360 Slim uses a different, smaller power brick rated at 135W with a different connector shape — not interchangeable with the original. Double check which model you have before ordering.

Xbox 360 E

The final Xbox 360 revision looks similar to the original Xbox One and uses yet another power supply variant. Not compatible with the original fat Xbox 360 power brick.

How to Tell Which Xbox 360 You Have

  • Large, boxy shape with a sliding disc tray: Original (Fat) Xbox 360
  • Smaller, glossy black with a slot-loading disc drive: Xbox 360 Slim (S)
  • Matte black, resembles original Xbox One: Xbox 360 E

Understanding the Status Light on Your Power Brick

  • Green light: Power supply working normally.
  • Orange/amber light: Standby mode — console off but connected. Normal.
  • Red light: Fault detected — the brick itself is likely faulty and needs replacing.
  • No light: Check your mains cable and wall socket first. If neither fixes it, the brick is dead.
